Ireland’s Ancient East is a lush, green landscape rich with heritage. Over 5000 years of history entrench the land, which consists of the counties along Ireland’s East Coast. The route includes the area outside of Dublin and east of the River Shannon, stretching from Carlingford to Cavan and south to the famed Cork City. It also includes East County Cork and East County Limerick. Motorways enable easy travel throughout the Ancient East, with endless destinations for you to choose from. Though we may be biased, our personal favourite is Cork. The coastal county is resplendent with stories from yester year, and offers a warm welcome to all guests to the region.
There is plenty to be experienced in the area, and our stretch of land hosts some of the finest medieval castles of Ireland. These are an ode to past glory days, and are an epic feat of architecture. This includes the Blarney Castle, nestled deep in Cork. Home to the famed Blarney Stone, millions have flocked to the castle to test the legend. As it goes, if you kiss the stone, hanging at the top of the tower, you’ll never find yourself lost for words again. There are also numerous other historic sites in the area, such as Knockdrum Stone Fort, Kealkil Stone Circle and Cloyne Round Tower.
