History & Art

The Old Ground Hotel, a former manor house dating back to the 18th century, retains all the splendour of a by-gone age while inside, all the conveniences of a modern hotel prevail.

The Old Ground Hotel was built in the early part of the 18th Century as a private dwelling, by Barry Upton & John Dwyer, who leased it to Charles Mahon for "Three Lives". When Mahon died in 1822 his son Charles Jnr. took over the lease.

Art Collection

The private contemporary art collection throughout Old Ground Hotel is carefully considered to sit comfortably on its historic walls. The interesting and dramatic artwork, by both established and emerging Irish and international artists, include works by Cecil Maguire, William Kentridge and Martin Gale.
